Practical route

  1. 1 Carry spare lockpicks and begin with a Very Easy lock. A higher difficulty can be unavailable until Thievery improves.
  2. 2 Move the cursor until its marker grows and turns gold. Rotate while following that point around the lock.
  3. 3 If it starts leaving the golden area, release rotation and reposition. A broken pick does not make the next attempt easier.
  4. 4 Use the practice chest to learn the motion before trying an owned door or chest.

Controls and progression

The original walkthrough uses R2/RT to turn the lock on controllers. On PC or a remapped controller, follow your displayed binding. Practice improves Thievery; a familiar input pattern does not bypass a difficulty gate.

Useful distinctions

Tool Master improves pick durability. It does not make theft lawful. Unlocking a container and taking its contents are different actions, and witnesses can respond before you finish looting.
